Benzyl Alcohol (BOH)
Benzyl Alcohol is an important chemical that has strong polarity and limited water solubility, making it useful as a solvent. It is used as a chemical intermediate because it easily reacts to form esters and other compounds. As a primary alcohol, it has a mild aromatic odor. It is a clear colorless liquid with reactive methylene and nuclear hydrogen groups.
Benzyl Alcohol is used as a de-greasing agent in cleaners and also as a solvent for ink and coatings. As a reactive intermediate, it reacts quickly with various acids to form esters useful in the soap, perfume and flavor industries.
